Oktober in Germany

Having been in Germany a week out of the month of October, I think I’m qualified to assess the state of things.

This week was depressing: I had the post-vacation blues big time, I still haven’t managed to get my emails down to under 150 (I decided next time I’m finding a way to disable email), and I came back to a city that’s cold and rainy.

I’ve been through this before. I can handle it. I haven’t pulled my happy light out yet…but it’s inevitable.

I decided to plan a Halloween party for next weekend to lift my spirits. And I want to report that most stores don’t even carry Halloween decorations. When I did find them, it was a very disappointing selection of plastic spiders and witch hats on less than half an aisle. Oh how I long for a Party City or a pop-up Halloween store. Sigh.

I also made my way to the market (which always makes me happy), and despite the pouring rain, it was packed. This is the best time of year at the market: kale, apples, squash abound. Root vegetables galore!

So while I may not be on a Greek island, I’m trying to make the best of October in Germany. Which means I’ll be in London tomorrow (does that count?). I know they have kale there…fingers crossed for some Halloween stores.
