How to eat carbs and enjoy cheat days

In multiple instances over the past few months, people have commented on my eating patterns.

Actually, it’s rare that a day goes by when someone doesn’t comment on the food I eat.

I bring my own lunch to work, which is not typical.

It always involves greens.

“The healthy eater!”

However,at two separate dinners out, people commented on the fact that I didn’t eat the bread.

“Oh, you’re on a low carb diet.”

“Yeah, bread makes you fat.”

The other day, I mentioned how I was excited for an upcoming meal.

“It’s your cheat day?”

And you know what?

These comments make me so mad.

So. mad.

Like I have to stop and take a breath and tell myself to let it be.

But really, why do people find it so necessary to comment on others’ eating habits?

I responded with:

“I eat a ton of carbs, just don’t feel like bread tonight.”

“I don’t think bread makes you fat; I think overeating makes you fat.”

“What am I cheating on?”

I wish I could laugh and agree:

“Yeah, I am on a low carb diet!”

“OMG bread makes you so fat.”

“Totally my cheat day. I’ll be back on the wagon tomorrow.”

Maybe it’s because I’m known as the healthy eater that people feel compelled to inquire about my eating decisions.

But I wish we all could just stop the food insanity.

The word diet.

The concept of a cheat day.

Our absurd fear of carbs.

Let’s all just chill out a little.

And enjoy our food.

Whether it involves bread or not.
