The Space Between

It’s that “in between the lines” time of year.

It’s not quite Spring, but you can feel it coming.

Winter should be over…but it’s still gently (or in some places, more strongly) reminding us of its lingering presence–with every gust of wind, frozen puddle, flurry.

The days have been sunny in Hamburg, for the most part.

The city has been blessed with what’s going on 2 months of consistent sunshine.

And while the temps have been freezing, the warm sun on my face feels so good. I’ll take it.

It’s a gap time.

It’s a sacred time.

The end of Lent and the beginning of the Easter.

The celebration of India’s Navartri, celebrating the sanctity of nature, worshipping Hindi goddesses who represent both the dark and the light, calling us to examine this in between.

The recent new moon – reminding us to let go of conflicts that are holidng us down, to be open to the change all around us in the energy of nature.

It’s that time to take a slow walk outside, to breathe in the cool air, and to gaze up at the tree branches, soon to be full of blooms.

Time to celebrate that there is no such thing as good or bad, dark or light.

That one can’t exist without the other.

It is the space in between that, if we remain open to it, gives us the opportunity to change and grow, ready to come alive in Spring.

Here are a few pics around Hamburg this time of year. The sunny days, still bare trees, opening of the ice cream store, and one of my favorite French breakfast spots (yes that is a hot out of the oven croissant).
